The Glasgow pub that had a starring role in episode of hit TV show Succession

The finale of Succession aired in the UK last night, leaving many people unsure how they will spend their Mondays from now on.

But if you cast your mind a few seasons back, you'll remember Scotland's starring role in Series 2 of the hit show when patriarch, CEO and king-of-the-castle Logan Roy, played by Scottish actor Brian Cox, goes back to his roots.

Like Cox, Logan's hometown is Dundee, and the eighth episode of the second season saw him return to the city after years away to celebrate his 50th anniversary as CEO of the company.

But it wasn't just Dundee that got the Hollywood treatment back during filming in 2019, with Glasgow getting plenty of airtime, with several settings in the city used, including the former Blythswood Hotel’s restaurant, Bo & Birdy.

However, perhaps most memorably used was a beloved Glasgow institution - the Laurieston Bar in the city's Bridge Street.

The scene sees middle Roy child Roman go in for a pint amidst a hilarious subplot involving the acquisition of Hearts Football Club and a terrible mix up with Hibernian FC.

At the time of airing, the appearance of the much loved pub delighted Glasgow viewers, and we've no doubt there was a cry of "The Laurieston!" from every Succession-watching home in the city.

Last year, Condé Nast named the bar one of the best in Glasgow, writing: "The Laurieston is one of the most iconic Glasgow bars, decked out in Formica, with a countertop warmer serving hot pies and tatty paperback books lining the windowsills.

"Situated just to the south of the city centre, opposite Bridge Street subway station, in recent years the older regulars have made room for fancy-dress pub crawlers, art students and music fans on their way to the O2 Academy up the road. The result is a welcoming, rag-tag mix of old and new, presided over by no-nonsense owner John Clancy."

So if you're looking for a pint fit for a billionaire, we'd recommend nipping along to Bridge Street to enjoy one in true Glasgow style.
