The Glasgow actor that could steal the show on the next season of Bridgerton

An actor from Glasgow who had a small role in season two of Bridgerton could soon play one of the main characters in the hit Netflix series.

Chris Fulton, 33, plays Sir Phillip Crane in the wildly popular period drama but so far has appeared in just two episodes.

His blink-and-you-might-miss-it cameo sees his character marry Marina Thompson in order to protect her reputation after she falls pregnant with his late brother George’s baby.

Although Marina is initially reluctant to wed, we see the happy couple raising the newborn together when Colin Bridgerton goes to visit his friend at the start of season two.

And while the scene is short, beady-eyed fans are convinced we’ll see more of Sir Phillip in the future.

The second series is an adaptation of the second novel in the series by Julia Quinn, called The Viscount Who Loved Me.

If the show continues to stay true to the books, Sir Phillip is set to be Eloise Bridgerton’s romantic interest in future seasons.

In the novel To Sir Phillip, With Love, quick-witted Eloise marries Sir Phillip Crane after the death of his wife Marina.

The twist could come as a surprise to loyal TV fans who watched the second eldest Bridgerton daughter swoon after printer's assistant Theo Sharpe in the second series.

But Bridgerton cast members are already speculating that we will see plenty more of Chris on our screens.

Actor Luke Newton, who plays Colin, told Decider that he is looking forward to acting more alongside the Glasgow star in the future.

He said: “It was really fun to work with Chris, who plays Sir Phillip.

"We hadn’t worked together last time. We actually first met at the wrap party of Season 1.

"So then to come back and to be on set for a few days with him was really fun. And as the stories in the books go, his character returns many times so we’ll see what happens with that character…”

Series three of Bridgerton does not have an official release date yet but it is expected to be some time in early 2023, following on from the success of the first two seasons.

What has been confirmed is that there will definitely be a fourth season. Netflix shared the news in April 2021 with a tweet saying: "BREAKING NEWS FROM THE TON. Bridgerton is returning for seasons three *AND* four!"
