The Giants gave a car away on Fan Appreciation Day … to a Dodgers fan

It’s been a rough 2019 season for the San Francisco Giants. They’re missing the postseason for the third straight year, and they were never seriously in the hunt for a Wild Card spot.

It’s so bad that even when the Giants thank their fans, the gesture manages to end in embarrassment.

See: Sunday’s season finale against the Dodgers at Oracle Park was Fan Appreciation Day. The Giants had several giveaways with a grand prize of a Toyota RAV4 going to one lucky fan.

The Giants determined this winner by randomly selecting a seat at the stadium, which would end up being a misguided decision against one of baseball’s largest fanbases. Yup, that’s because a Dodgers fan ended up winning that Giants Fan Appreciation Day grand prize.

Just wow.

Again, the Giants probably should have seen that possibility coming. If you’ve attended any NL West game against the Dodgers, you likely noticed that the stadium was full of Dodgers fans. The chances of that car going to a Dodgers fan had to be close to 50 percent — it was always going to be that way.

But good for that Dodgers fan. He or she will get to root for the National League’s best team and drive around in a new car.
