The giant mural of Sir Tom Jones that's just been unveiled in the grounds of Cardiff Castle

Welsh artist Nathan Wyburn has paid the ultimate tribute to Sir Tom Jones on his 80th birthday by creating a portrait of the singer in Cardiff Castle.

The grounds of the castle served as Nathan's canvas and inspired by Sir Tom's biggest hit The Green, Green Grass of Home, the materials he used to create the portrait included 12 bags of soil.

Drone footage of the artwork shows the scale and size of the piece, which measured 17 metres long and took eight hours to complete.

It got the seal of approval from Sir Tom himself, who tweeted: "Diolch un fawr iawn Nathan!"

Speaking about his artwork, Nathan said: "Obviously the idea would have been perfect to create in his actual hometown of Pontypridd, however current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions mean that I can't travel from Cardiff to there.

"The castle grounds are iconic throughout the world, so I really hope this acts as a celebration not just on behalf of myself, but all of Wales.

"Sir Tom to me is the ultimate Welsh icon. Wherever I go in the world, when I say I'm from Wales, the response is 'oh like Tom Jones' and I love that. What a legacy."
