The giant cheetah mural in Cardiff that's stopping shoppers in their tracks

If you've walked through Cardiff city centre recently you've probably seen the massive cheetah mural opposite the Principality Stadium.

The giant caiman and hunting cheetah painting on Quay Street is certainly eye-catching - but there's also an important message behind it.

The people behind the mural are Matilda Tichner-Du and artist Jim Vision, from company End of the Line, as well as Cardiff-based artist Bradley Rmer.

The trio worked with Netflix and Sully's café, who allowed their wall to become a massive canvas, to create the mural promoting Sir David Attenborough's upcoming documentary series Our Planet.

The eight-part series will warn viewers about the deadly consequences of climate change while showcasing the world's most incredible wildlife.

Jim and Matilda said the series explores different environments under threat and the episode Fresh Water - which explores freshwater ecosystems - was the inspiration for the Cardiff piece.

Jim, originally from Barry, said: "Netflix is one of our clients and we have worked with Sully's a few times before and they really like to have interesting artwork murals on their walls. It's also in the heart of Cardiff so a lot of people will see it, stop and think about the message.

"It's part of David Attenborough's new Netflix series, which is incredible to be part of. But it's also a topic close to my heart and the message really resonates with me.

And in keeping with the theme of the programme, the artists used recycled paint.

Speaking about the upcoming series, Jim said: "It was incredible. It's the best I've seen and it was so high-res it was just surreal.

"We were able to watch the uncut version of the series so we could design the pieces using features from each biome.

"We've just finished painting a mural in Birmingham, which focused on a jungle scene and we doing more across the UK."

Our Planet is set to be released on April 5 on Netflix.

The pair were able to watch the uncut version of Our Planet to draw inspiration for their artwork.
