The Georgian Museum in Bristol closed as filming takes place for major ITV period drama

It many not come as much of a surprise to discover that The Georgian House Museum is going to feature in a major new Jane Austen adaptation.

Film crews were spotted outside the museum - which is located on Great George Street, just off Park Street, today (May 6).

The filming is for Sanditon - an eight-part adaptation of the novel by BAFTA-award winning screenwriter Andrew Davis.

And it looks like crews could be at the museum all week.

According to its website, the museum will remain closed until Saturday, May 11 - although it is usually closed Wednesday through Friday.

A number of film trailers were spotted near St Mary Redcliffe Church over the weekend as well.

Sanditon, which is also using Bristol's Bottleyard Studios as a base as well as other locations across the city, tells the story of the impulsive and unconventional Charlotte Heywood and her spiky relationship with the charming Sidney Parker.

Filming for the series was taking place in Clevedon back in March and other locations across North Somerset are also being used, including Sand Point and Uphill.

Sanditon is Austen’s final, incomplete, novel written only months before her death in 1817.

The cast includes Rose Williams, Theo James, Anne Reid and Kris Marshall, who has links to Bristol, with Williams starring as Charlotte and Marshall as Tom Parker.

Adapted by acclaimed screenwriter Andrew Davies, the man behind War & Peace, Mr Selfridge, Les Misérables, Pride and Prejudice, Austen’s original 11-chapter fragment will be brought to life in eight, hour-long episodes.
