The George Baldock Celtic transfer variables that will decide if Ange Postecoglou can land summer rebuild cornerstone

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has a number of variables to weigh up as he looks to lure George Baldock to Glasgow.

Record Sport exclusively revealed the Sheffield United right-back is a summer target for the new Parkhead manager.

The Greek-Australian will now run the rule over his stars after exiting self-isolation last week before being unveiled on Friday afternoon.

Now he's set to get down to business off the training pitch with new chief executive Dominic McKay in identifying targets for the club's rebuild this summer.

And whether Baldock is going to make the jump from Yorkshire to Glasgow's east end depends on a number of factors, report the Sheffield Star.

The first concerns new Blades manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

He's set to arrive on Thursday to end over a month of waiting since his announcement in late May and, like Postecoglou, the Serbian faces having to pick up the pieces of a squad brutally low on confidence.

Jokanovic takes over a side relegated on a final tally of just 23 points and a group of players who are coming to terms with the departure of a well-liked figurehead in Chris Wilder.

He's looking to use the same wing-back system as his predecessor that proved so effective in United's first season in the Premier League before one of the more brutal cases of 'second season syndrome' befell them. Baldock, on the right side, would likely feature heavily.

And it's claimed losing the 28-year-old would put an early strain on the new gaffer's relationship with the Bramall Lane board — which spelled the end for Wilder's tenure in March.

But Celtic chiefs could find Jokanovic takes a different tack when he assesses his players in the coming weeks as one of the club's brightest young talents plays in the same position.

20-year-old Jayden Bogle was signed last September as a long-term replacement and if Jokanovic believes he's worthy of a starting role then a deal could be more likely.

Then it comes down to the club's board and with three years left to run on his contract they'd be entitled to hold out for big bucks.

Rangers-linked John Lundstram's call to walk away for free earlier this month was another instance of big Blades names that have left the club for arguably well below their worth.

Just how much would they be prepared to part with for Baldock, and whether Celtic can match that fee, remains to be seen.
