The genius hack that keeps bread fresh for TEN DAYS past its sell by date

With lockdown rules stating that we're only allowed to shop for 'essentials', many of us have been trying to keep trips to the supermarket for a minimum.

We've been planning ahead and stocking up on things more efficiently than usual, meaning less unnecessary trips out which could put lives at risk.

However, one thing that's hard to keep fresh for long is bread - or so we thought.

Now one woman has come up with a brilliant and simple hack, which she says kept her loaf fresh for an impressive ten days after its sell-by date.

Writing on a popular Facebook group, she said: "I watched a YouTube video and it said if you put a stick of celery in the bag it keeps the bread fresher for longer so tried.

"Just finished the last slices off and the bread was fine and it was dated the 19th of April – so 10 days out of date."

Somebody explained how the method works in the comment section of the post, saying: "The bread absorbs the moisture from the celery to stop the bread drying out and going mouldy."

Facebook users have flocked to praise the idea, with one writing: "Wow that is worth knowing thank you."

"Ooooh thanks for sharing this!" said somebody else.

Government advice on handling food bought from supermarkets

Somebody else shared another great tip - this time to keep bananas fresh.

They said: "Great tip. Another tip for keeping bananas fresh is balance the bunch of bananas on your top with the ends in a small saucer of water, the water stops them aging so fast."

Keep the lockdown food tips coming everyone!
