The adverts may be a little unnerving, but Blackfive - a blog by a former US paratrooper - has an impressive list of links to all kinds of other military blogs and sites.
There are a lot of Iraq related links, including blogs from US troops out there and a couple of British blogs.
365 and a Wake Up is by a soldier in the California Army National Guard, who has just returned to Baghdad after a period of leave. One poster to his site's comment boards advises him: "Now you're in for the post R&R decompression time, when time slows down. The next three weeks will take six weeks to get through - at least that how it always worked for me."
An email from a "senior US marine" to Blackfive, makes the point that the media and the public seem surprised that there is a current offensive against insurgents and insists troops are "taking the fight" to those trying to destabilise post-Saddam Iraq.
Another blog I found through Blackfive, though not directly military in theme, is Iraq the Model, run by two Iraqi brothers in their 30s who are dentists and live in Baghdad.
There is a great little story on there today that they found in a Baghdad newspaper about a small crowd of Iraqis who took to the streets of the capital yesterday. The protest wa not against terrorism or occupation, but against smoking. The bloggers write of banners saying things like "no to the culture of addiction" and note that the protest is considered the "first of its kind".
It is encouraging to see signs of the return of normal life in Iraq.
