The Gateshead traffic survey: Have your say on the council's controversial roads shake-up

It may have only been a matter of days since the start of major roadworks in central Gateshead - but they are already proving controversial.

Gateshead Council said the ongoing works are needed to meet the increasing demand for more space for walking and cycling since the lockdown.

But the road and cycle network changes have caused chaos among commuters, with hundreds signing a petition in a bid to get the scheme scrapped.

Tailbacks of traffic have been a regular sight on the A184, Gateshead Highway and Askew Road since work began in the town centre on Friday, July 24.

The council has since said it will make changes to its initial proposals.

Leader Martin Gannon announced the flyover will reopen to northbound traffic next week (w/c August 3) as soon as it is "practical and safe" and to enable further consultation and analysis of traffic flow data to take place.

We want to know what you think about proposals and what you would do differently. Perhaps you are behind the council's plans for improved cycling and walking in Gateshead, or you may feel like the disruption is not worth the final result.

Let us know your thoughts by filling the short survey below. We'll reveal the results after it closes.
