The Gary Neville verdict that can help Tanguy Ndombele find the perfect solution at Tottenham

Tottenham record signing Tanguy Ndombele would be a better fit at a club in Spain or Italy.

That is the view of former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville who delivered his verdict on the Frenchman whilst on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports during Spurs ' Premier League clash against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Ndombele arrived in north London from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon for £55million in the summer of 2019, but hasn't quite reached the heights that he displayed during his time in France.

As Spurs were beaten 2-0 by the Blues, the 24-year-old was the topic of conversation shortly before the interval where Neville was asked for his honest assessment of the midfielder.

Whilst admitting that he is indeed a fan of Ndombele and highlighting the Frenchman's qualities, Neville is of the opinion that the Spurs ace won't ever be appreciated in England.

"That's the thing about Ndombele, you don’t know what to make of him, I don't think anyone does," Neville said whilst on commentary. "He’s a fantastic technical player, he takes the ball in difficult situations, he dribbles with it and beats people.

"But then you don’t see him for three or four minutes, six minutes, eight minutes and wonder where he is.

"I watch Ndombele and I think there are a lot of players in Spain and Italy and sometimes they fit those leagues better than this league so I don’t think he’ll be appreciated over here because he doesn’t fit into a position or a type.

"He’s a very good football player.

"We like to put midfield players into a box, he’s a defensive midfield player, he’s an attacking midfield player who assists and scores goals, he doesn’t really fit any of those profiles just plays in the game and contributes between the boxes but I think at both ends does he have enough impact?"

Interestingly, Ndombele has been linked with moves to La Liga giants Barcelona as well as Serie A side Juventus in recent transfer windows, although that was pure speculation.

But if he continues to struggle for consistency that would allow him to fulfil his enormous potential at Spurs, it could be best for both parties if a decision is made to part ways.

As a result, Neville's verdict on Ndombele may help Spurs Director of Football Fabio Paratici find the perfect solution of raising funds and then using the money to find a replacement better suited to the club.
