The Gareth Bale photo which could destroy Man Utd hopes of signing him as future plunged into more confusion

Gareth Bale's future at Real Madrid just became a little more confusing after the club used the seemingly unwanted star in the promotional images for their new away kit.

This isn't the first time this summer that the Spanish giants have wheeled out the Welshman to help market their new merchandise - with Bale modelling the home kit as well.

While it might seem obvious that one of the club's most recognisable faces is used to try to sell the new shirt, it is at odds with the attitude of the club towards the 29-year-old.

Real are clearly trying to get rid of Wales' record goalscorer as they look to balance the books after a busy start to the summer that has seen them splash £270million on Eden Hazard, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy and the sale of Bale would go a long way to offsetting those purchases.

Add in the fact that he was out of favour last season with manager Zinedine Zidane, who has even suggested that Bale wouldn't feature next year were he to stick around, and the exit door looks the likeliest option for the former Tottenham winger.

But it would appear that concrete interest in Bale has been limited due to his high wages, which are believed to be around £600,000, on a long-term deal that runs until 2022.

Links to Manchester United have gone cold in recent days, and this promotional campaign won't have helped matters.

His agent has ruled out the possibility of him leaving Madrid on loan, meaning Bale's situation remains clouded at best.
