The Gareth Bale decision that could cost Real Madrid £60m

Gareth Bale could be set to exact some revenge on Real Madrid over the next couple of years, according to the latest reports in Spain.

The former Tottenham star has become a peripheral figure at the Bernabeu, and looks to be increasingly fed up with his position at the club.

His antics while sat on the sidelines during the conclusion of the La Liga season, including pretending to fall asleep during a game, have caught the eye of spectators, and angered many Real fans.

And while Madrid lifted the league title, Bale cut an awkward figure and largely stayed out of the celebrations, before being left out of the squad completely for the final league match of the season.

His relationship with manager Zinedine Zidane appears to be at the point of no return, leading to speculation that he could be on his way out of the club this summer.

But it may not be that easy for Real to offload the Welshman, with AS reporting that the Spanish giants have come to the conclusion that Bale is “unsellable”.

Instead, they will look to offload other players this summer, meaning Bale is becoming increasingly likely to see out his contract until 2022.

With the 31-year-old reportedly earning up to £600,000 a week before tax, that means Real could end up forking out around £60m for a player who is seemingly not in Zidane’s plans.

Those wages have made it unlikely that any club will be able to make a viable offer for Bale, and the reports say the player is determined to make Madrid pay every penny over the next couple of years.

Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has backed up that view, stating the Welshman isn’t looking at a move away from Madrid.

“Gareth is fine. He has two years left on his contract,” Barnett told BBC Sport.

“He likes living in Madrid and he is going nowhere.

“He is still as good as anyone else in the team. It's up to [Real Madrid manager] Zinedine Zidane.”

Ruling out the possibility of Bale heading out on loan, Barnett added: “Of course there's been interest but there's hardly a club in the world which can afford him.

“Gareth is one of the best players in the world. The best players in the world do not go out on loan.”
