The Gannet temporarily closes due to coronavirus crisis

The Gannet has temporarily closed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The popular Finnieston restaurant made the "heartbreaking decision" to suspend trading in order to protect the health of their staff and guests.

The west end eatery is looking to create a delivery service providing "fresh healthy meals", with profits going towards food for the vulnerable.

A statement on The Gannet's social media reads: "Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus in this unprecedented pandemic we don’t see any option other than to suspend trading at the restaurant until it’s safe for our team and customers.

"This has been a incredibly heartbreaking decision but one we feel necessary. The health of our team and guests is paramount to Ivan, Kevin and I.

"We are in the early stages of piecing together a delivery service that will support the local community and beyond with fresh healthy meals, the profit will be channeled into food for the most vulnerable, we will to have more information on this soon."

There are 153 confirmed cases of coronavirus across Scotland, according to figures released by the Scottish Government today. One person has died as a result of contradicting the virus.

Meanwhile, the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area has 39 confirmed cases - an increase of eight since yesterday.
