The games Sean Longstaff will miss for Newcastle United after red card against Wolves

Newcastle United will be without midfielder Sean Longstaff for their next three Premier League after he was dismissed in the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Sunday.

Longstaff picked up his first career red card after he caught Ruben Neves with a high tackle after 82 minutes.

He will now serve a three-match ban for serious foul play which we see him sit out matches away at West Ham United, home to AFC Bournemouth and the game at Aston Villa after the international break.

The FA will review the incident to see if there are any other sanctions needed but that is unlikely.

Former Newcastle boss Souness felt sympathy for the 19-year-old, explaining to Sky Sports: “I think he is a wee bit unlucky here.

"He goes to ground early, he doesn't get a lot of the ball which might be a bit of the problem. He leaves his foot there to dangle.”

Before Keane added: “You can always tell by a players reaction. The kid himself knows, you can see his reaction when the card comes out, nobody complains.

“He is slightly unucky. He is not in control and the raised foot.”

Souness then concluded: “It is a sending off but I would cut him slack with that as I don’t think he’s meant it.”

Newcastle had led at half-time after captain Jamaal Lascelles powered home his near-post header from Federico Fernandez's cross.

However Wolves were much better after the break and their pressure made off as Jonny fired in from close range after Martin Dubravka had fumbled Matt Doherty's cross into his path.

Newcastle will have Isaac Hayden back available against West Ham after he served a three-match ban for serious foul play after his red card against Leicester City in September.
