The games Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich must get through without being booked to avoid a ban

Leeds United midfielders Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich are currently walking a disciplinary tightrope in order to avoid a one-match ban.

The duo were both booked in the 5-2 win over Newcastle United earlier this month, which took their total yellow cards in the Premier League this term up to four.

One more caution for either player before the mid-season cut-off point would see them handed a one-match suspension for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The pair both managed to get through the defeat to Manchester United and win over Burnley unscathed, but still face four more fixtures that must be navigated without a yellow card before they are in the clear.

Premier League rules stipulate that five bookings before the 19th completed match of the season result in a one match ban, with Leeds facing trips to West Brom and Tottenham before back-to-back Elland Road clashes against Brighton and Southampton before they hit the season midpoint.

The threshold for a suspension then moves up to ten yellow cards.

Cup competitions are treated separately, so next month's trip to Crawley Town in the FA Cup third round will not have an impact here.

Phillips and Klich have been key to Bielsa's side so far this term, with the Pole starting every game this term and Phillips making 12 appearances with his three absences coming after a shoulder injury.

No other Leeds players are at an immediate risk of a suspension, with Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas on three yellows for the season so far.
