"The game we love is in danger" - Manchester United great David Beckham attacks European Super League

Manchester United legend David Beckham has joined the fight against the Super League by expressing his dismay over the breakaway league.

United co-chairman Joel Glazer has been at the heart of the project alongside Liverpool owner John Henry.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea have all agreed to join the competition, that will see a closed shop enforced, much to the dismay of supporters across the country.

Gary Neville has been vocal on Sky Sports and across social media about stopping the Super League and Beckham has now issued his verdict, which is in keeping with the wider football community's response.

"I’m someone who loves football. It has been my life for as long as I can remember," Beckham told his 65 million followers on Instagram. "I loved it from when I was a young child as a fan, and I’m still a fan now. As a player and now as an owner I know that our sport is nothing without the fans. We need football to be for everyone. We need football to be fair and we need competitions based on merit. Unless we protect these values the game we love is in danger…"

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville urged supporters to rally together to put a stop to the project.

"Pundits for BBC, ITV, BT Sport, forget allegiances, forget who you support, we’ve got to come together to stop this proposal," Neville said.

"This is an attack on everything that’s been important in this country, football has helped in the last 10 months in the midst of pandemic, more than ever, to keep people going, and they’re trying to take it away from us."
