The Game of Thrones prequel has FINALLY got a production date

The Game of Thrones prequel series has a filming date and it’s sooner than you think.

HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed the untitled project is set to begin production early this summer.

The pilot, which will star Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse, is set thousands of years before the start of the main series.

The publication added that Bloys previously explained that the prequel will not air until at least a year after the final season of the drama concludes.

Meanwhile fans are currently anticipating the arrival of the hit show’s final season, which is due to air in April.

Show star Kit Harington previously opened up on the “grief” he felt on the final day of filming.

Harington, who plays Jon Snow, told how he is “not happy but very satisfied” with the way the show has ended.

Speaking on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show last month, he said: “[I’m] maybe not happy, but very satisfied.

“I’m so excited for people to see it, I think it’s going to be extraordinary, hopefully it’ll change TV again like it did originally, and break boundaries, I think it might.”

Harington added: “It’s like when you finish a book, you’re not happy it’s over are you? You don’t finish a good book and say ‘I’m happy I finished that’.

“But you have this grief that it’s over, and it’s the exact same with nine years doing this show. No matter how it ended, or how it does end, there’s always this bit of you that’s like ‘oh’, there’s this loss around it.”

Harington’s co-star Emilia Clarke also admitted she “completely lost it” after filming the final episode.

The comments come after HBO teased fans with clips ahead of the upcoming season finale.

Game of Thrones Season eight will return to screens on April 14, 2019.
