The gamble of keeping Steve Bruce on for Newcastle United vs Tottenham

Newcastle United take on Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday in the first game under new ownership - and Steve Bruce will be leading the side from the dugout.

It's a decision that few expected - with a host of managers linked to Newcastle, the club's form pretty dismal, and fan discontent aimed at Bruce still high, many felt Graeme Jones would be in charge at the very least until a replacement could be found.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley confirmed on Friday, that Bruce would indeed be in charge - and it adds an interesting dynamic to the game.

It's also his 1000th game as a manager, which is quite the landmark.

Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson preview this weekend's game on The Everything is Black and White Podcast - and are joined by Football London's Tottenham writer Emma De Duve.

The trio discusses the takeover, Steve Bruce, injury news and the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.

The Magpies are 19th in the Premier League and without a win, this season, and Bruce has only led his side to seven wins in 37 games but the hope is that with new owners in charge, the atmosphere can boost United and help them to a win.

Gibbo makes it quite clear that the move to keep Bruce in charge, in his view, is a gamble.

"If he leaves, it'll give the fans on the terraces a lift.

"I don't think it's a gamble, it's a gamble if you go with him.

"The only way you can spoil the party - other than Tottenham winning - is the feeling towards Bruce if he's in the dugout.

"If it's nil-nil or we go one down, will fans vent their frustrations? If he wins, he still gets the sack. It's as simple as that because it'll be one win in eight and one win isn't going to keep him in the job."
