The future looks bright thanks to our next generation - Voice of the Mirror

Today’s Daily Mirror looks to the future.

This special edition has been edited and written by young people. The content reflects their interests, passions and concerns.

Each generation faces its own challenges.

Few will envy today’s teens, growing up in a world of fast-changing technology, social media pressures and political upheaval.

It is no surprise they worry about issues such as cyber-bullying, climate change and knife crime.

Nor should it come as a shock they are concerned about exam pressures, job prospects and homelessness. Our poll also shows many suffer stress and poor mental health.

But it also found today’s teens are generally happy at school, politically engaged and
optimistic about the future. That is what you can see on display in today’s paper.

There is a promising future ahead for this country but only if we support our young.

Climate of fear

Politicians are finally waking up to the urgent need for action on climate change.

This is, in part, thanks to young people such as 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, who will not stand by while our planet is destroyed.

Everyone can play their part in halting global warming but the responsibility rests primarily with our political leaders. More international pressure should be placed on countries which refuse to back the Paris accord, such as the US.

This generation will have failed the next if it fails to grasp this most crucial challenge.

Give them vote

Theresa May has finally come round to the idea of a second referendum.

Brexit is a decision which will affect the next generation more than anybody else. Perhaps it is time to listen to what young people have told us and consider lowering the voting age.
