'The future is ours for the taking' - The spine-tingling Leeds United poem that launched the centenary kit

Leeds United revealed their new home kit for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday night alongside a spine-tingling poem commemorating the club's centenary year.

The kit pays homage to the hundredth anniversary of the club's foundation, with Leeds United setup in 1919 following the disbanding of Leeds City in 1919.

Since the club's formation, Leeds have had quite the history.

With three League titles to their name and FA Cup and League Cups to go with it, the Whites are one of the most illustrious clubs in English football.

They've also had their run of rotten luck, too - the 1975 European Cup final seeing Leeds 'cheated' out of their first European trophy which spawned the famous 'we are the champions' chant that still echoes round Elland Road at matches in the present day.

All that is documented, and more, in a brilliant poem read out by Game of Thrones and The Office actor Ralph Ineson and written by critically acclaimed local poet Matt Abbott - both ardent Leeds fans.

Abbott took to Twitter following the release of the video to proclaim the commission as 'the greatest honour of my life, bar none', with Ineson quickly replying 'top words, thank you'.

Watch the inspirational video above, with the poem in full below. If this doesn't get you ready for the new season and the upcoming centenary celebrations, nothing will...

In a world of colours and stripes Leeds United stand tall, in a kit of white.

In the swinging sixties Don brought his vision in white, from Bobby, to Billy, to bite-your-legs Hunter the Whites have one hell of a story.

It's dancing on a beach in Bournemouth, it's Viduka on his knees.

From the playground to the Peackock, it's a silent salute.

It's Beckford at the Stretford End, it's Clarke - 1-0!

Tears aplenty at Wembley or Paris, this shirt carries pain with its glory.

It's the ups, it's the downs.

Through it all together from champions of Europe, to minus-15.

It's dirty Leeds, the damned United.

Southampton, 7-0, smithereens.

It's family, it's ritual, it's heartbreak honour.

It's our club, our city.

All Leeds aren't we?

It's Shezza, it's Sergeant.

It's Lee Chapman's sofa.

It's Barcelona, AC milan.

Eddie 'The Last Waltz' Gray.

It's Tony Yeboah, the crossbar cannons.

It's the thrill that comes with wearing white.

It's Madeley, and Milner and Batty and Howson - homegrown lads with their names up in lights.

When we lose, it's us against the world.

When we win, we soar above the clouds (go on Gary Speed, get one yourself son)

It's losing your voice when you're losing 4-0.

It's Big Jack, it's Delph, The Chief.

From  Don's dossiers to Bielsa's bucket the future is ours for the taking.

Cooper, Pablo - we are Leeds and we're proud.

Ninety minutes, 100 years, it's more than a shirt.

It's belief.

Kit on. March on.

Always Leeds.
