The full reasons why West Ham's game with Manchester City was postponed due to Storm Ciara

West Ham's clash with Manchester City in the Premier League has fallen victim to the weather thanks to Storm Ciara, which is wreaking havoc across Britain on Sunday.

The Premier League match at the Etihad was called off just after 11am, with many Hammers fans having already made or started to make their journeys up to the north west for the game as there were no indications earlier today that it would be postponed.

However, deteriorating conditions in Manchester throughout the course of the morning left the Etihad club with little option to abandon the match, with a re-arranged fixture to be announced in due course.

Now, via our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News, it can be revealed why the reigning Premier League champions decided to take they did.

They are:

- Flooding and surface water on M60/62 motorway.

- Tram lines in Manchester affected with falling trees, several routes delayed, some routes are cancelled.

- Northern Rail advising customers not to travel by train unless strictly necessary.

- Significant floods on Alan Turing Way at the Etihad Stadium.

- Train travel times from London taking approximately five hours due to reduced speeds.

- All trains north of Preston cancelled.

Football.London understands that the Premier League was preparing for the game to go ahead as normal at around 10.45am this morning before the decision was made by City just after 11am to cancel the match and with the reasons above, it was approved by the Premier League

There has been no initial update as yet as to when the fixture will be re-arranged for following the postponement.
