The full palette of pink

Exploring pink's plurality, Peter Philips, Dior Makeup creative and image director, curates from subtle to electrifying tones for the Glow Addict collection, used in creating the audacious spring 2018 look.

Dior spring 2018 make-up look with a pink spectrum.

"There are as many shades of pink as there are emotions, and I want to underline that by creating a palette that goes all the way from pastel to extreme shocking pink," said Philips, who joined Dior in 2014.

The French fashion house, which celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, has long had an affinity with the colour of femininity.

It's the colour of Christian Dior's favourite flower, the rose, as well as the pebbledash façade of his childhood home, Les Rhumbs, in Granville, Normandy.

From the debut collection, presented on Feb 12, 1947, the New Look included a design in "porcelain pink" and thereafter various pinks appeared in the maison's archive.

The legendary couturier once said that every woman should have something pink in her wardrobe. This suggestion extends to loading the make-up bag with Dior's spring 2018 limited editions and Lip Glow reinventions by Philips.

"Lip Glow is anchored into the DNA of Dior, and I really want to play with variations, in shades and glow," said the Belgian make-up artist, who created 10 new pink shades for the colour-reviver balm, originally a backstage make-up staple.

Four of the tubes have a new velvety matte or iridescent holographic finish whereas the rest give the original custom glow effect with a subtle shine.

The holographic effect has also been imparted on Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer Glow Addict powder with a motif evoking the tulle of couture dresses. Highly-concentrated in pearlescent pigments, the sculpting powder gives the skin a radiant and healthy look, enhanced by the various shades of the other pink make-up.

Eyeliner and brow mascara are even in pink to harmonise with rosy shades of the 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palette, which comes in two variations embossed with a tulle and pleated fabric pattern. Bright shades and warm tones are featured in the palette named Flirt while pastel hues with pearly contrasts are combined in Thrill.

Without being too girly or garish, the spectrum celebrates the colour's different temperament for creating a make-up look that can be innocent with the pastel or bold with fuchsia on eyes or lips.

Completing the spring look, nails are also in the pink with Dior Vernis Glow Addict formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, phthalates or camphor.
