The full extent of Aldo Kalulu's injury as Swansea City boss Steve Cooper opens up on Kristoffer Peterson's frustrations

Aldo Kalulu looks set to be unavailable until early November having been sidelined for more than two months with an ankle injury.

The summer signing was withdrawn 68 minutes into his debut at Derby due to injury before suffering another problem in the home win over Preston seven days later, with the Frenchman coming off at half time of the 3-2 success.

Kalulu - currently on a season-long loan at Swansea from Swiss outfit Basel - has not kicked a ball for the first team since that comeback triumph over Alex Neil's side.

And Steve Cooper admits it's unlikely that Kalulu will return to action this month, with the away clash against Wigan on November 2 being a more realistic return date for the versatile attacker.

"He’s in the latter stages of rehab, so he’s not been in with the team training as such, but he’s at that last phase of being ready to join in because we put a lot of emphasis on our training and when you come back from injury, you have to be of a certain level of fitness," said Cooper.

"He’s had a tricky injury to be fair. To us it’s an ankle sprain but to the medics, it’s been slightly complicated, not just him but that type of injury.

"They said from the start, the medics, that these can take a bit of time and they’re never straightforward. It’s proved to be that, a little bit.

" The thing with Aldo, I know he didn’t get in the team when he first came, but it wasn’t on the back of a strong pre-season if I’m being honest.

"The same with Kris Peterson. So although he’s missed a bit now, he hasn’t done anything really since pre-season, so we’ve got to be careful with minutes.

"We had the same situation with Tom Carroll in terms of getting him back up to speed. Playing games will be part of that, and getting right up to match fitness. We need to be wise about how we do that."

Kristoffer Peterson is another who has failed to nail down a spot in the starting XI since moving to the Liberty Stadium in the summer.

The Swedish winger joined from Dutch outfit Heracles in August, signing a three-year deal with the Swans.

However, he has featured just five times in all competitions this term, with three of those outings coming in the Carabao Cup.

It means just 39 of his 222 minutes of action for Swansea have come in the Championship.

But Cooper remains confident that former Liverpool man Peterson will prove his worth, adding that the 24-year-old has been the ultimate professional, despite his lack of game time.

"He’s looking good. He’s looking really good. He’s really, really pushing, I have to say," admitted Cooper.

"He seems settled in the area. I know he’s really happy at the club. I’m sure he’s been slightly frustrated with his game time, but he hasn’t let it show.

"I have spoken to some people at some other clubs who have experienced young foreign players coming in and how different getting up to speed can be.

"Everyone is different, and Kris is taking a bit longer. He might not agree with that but he’s training well and pushing."
