The full details of Anthony Martial's move to £58m United

The full extent of Anthony Martial's potential €80m move to Manchester United has been revealed after his shock deadline day move from Monaco.

Martial cost United £36.3m on the final day of the summer transfer window in a deal that has already seen him become the most expensive teenage footballer in the history of the game.

However, it quickly emerged that United’s offer to Monaco goes far beyond the initial fee, with the Ligue 1 club set to benefit hugely should Martial go on to meet his potential at Old Trafford in the coming seasons. Monaco soon revealed that United tripled their offer within 24 hours of opening negotiations, leaving them with no option than to sell the young French forward.

According to The Sun, United will be forced to pay United an extra £7.2m should Martial score 25 goals within the next four seasons, with an additional £7.2m set to be received if the 19-year-old goes on to make 25 international caps across the same period. At present, Martial is with the France squad ahead of what could be his senior debut on the international scene.

Finally, it’s added that a third payment of £7.2m will be transferred to Monaco should Martial go on to reach the top of the game and win the Ballon d’Or by June 2019, although given that the award is handed to the world’s best footballer, United may be safe in paying the final lump sum.

With that in mind, Should Martial go on to meet the first two clauses in his contract, United will have paid Monaco £50.7m – more than the possible £49m Manchester City have committed to Raheem Sterling – and it would make him the third most expensive transfer in British history after United’s £59.7m move for Angel Di Maria and City’s £55m summer acquisition of Kevin De Bruyne.
