The full Cardiff City injury bulletin as 10 doubtful but Mick McCarthy to take three new youngsters to Birmingham

Cardiff City could be without as many as 10 senior players for the clash with Birmingham City but Mick McCarthy revealed three academy kids would travel for the St Andrew's clash.

The Bluebirds will make their final away trip of the season on Saturday afternoon, but they will be doing so with something of a depleted squad.

They have a huge number of injury concerns heading into this weekend's Championship clash, including captain Sean Morrison, who is still feeling the effects of that arm injury he sustained following a challenge with Wycombe's Uche Ikpeazu last week.

"Sean came off with his elbow," McCarthy said.

"That’s proving to be a problem for him. Max Watters has a tight hamstring.

"Jordi [Osei-Tutu] has got an ankle problem. Will Vaulks is obviously suspended. That’s enough for now!

"I’m just looking at the list: Junior Hoilett, Tommo [Lee Tomlin], Isaac Vassell, Joel Bagan, Joe Bennett, Tom Sang.

"And Uncle Tom Cobley and all! There’s plenty there."

While the list appears lengthy, there is always the other side of the coin which could see this represent a sliding-doors moment for some of City's young players.

Rubin Colwill was handed his first start last week and looks set to be involved against the Blues this weekend.

However, there will be room for three more fresh faces in the travelling contingent this weekend.

"Rubin was excellent and he will be involved [on Saturday] and we have got a few others," McCarthy added.

"Isaak Davies is in the squad, young Kieron [Evans] is in the squad, Sam [Bowen].

"We have a few travelling with us, we have a few injuries, but it was my intention anyway to have some youngsters in the squad anyway.

"They’ll be involved now, over the next couple of games. Hopefully they’ll have some game time."

Rate Cardiff City's season: Give us your verdict

This week Sol Bamba spoke to WalesOnline about his return to training and how he hoped beyond all hope that he would miraculously feature either this weekend or the following week against Rotherham.

Bamba underwent his final round of chemotherapy last week and will next week learn whether he has been given the all clear. To top off his recovery, he would love a return to the pitch this season.

And while that goal is ultimately driving him in training every day, McCarthy deemed it fanciful that Bamba would be able to feature against Rotherham next weekend.

"I haven’t seen his quotes! He has been out training with us and he has been great on those small pitches," McCarthy said.

"But I don’t for one minute think he’s fit enough to play in a game, no.

"But it’s been great to have him out. He’s been great and has a smile on his face. He is moaning like a drain at every bad decision I give him, which means he is alright. It’s great to have him back.

"He’s not ready to play a game, not yet.

"He’s a lot closer to playing than I am, that’s for sure!

"He is training really well - but wishful thinking in terms of being on the pitch."
