After becoming one of the few TV-to-film adaptations that actually proved a success, Warner Brothers has decided to greenlight another chapter in the long-running saga of Dr Richard Kimble.
The Fugitive, which originally started out as a TV show in the 60s, became a big hit in 1993, making $368m worldwide and giving Tommy Lee Jones an Oscar for best supporting actor. The plot followed a doctor who was falsely accused of murdering his wife.
It’s not yet been confirmed whether Jones or star Harrison Ford would make a return in the new instalment. Jones has already returned to the franchise with a role in 1998’s US Marshals, where he hunted Wesley Snipes. The film was a disappointment, making just $102m at the global box office and receiving largely negative reviews.
According to Deadline, the script for the latest take will come from Christina Hodson, who has written the forthcoming Naomi Watts thriller Shut In. The film will also retain Arnold and Anne Kopelson, who produced the original.
If Ford does return, it would be yet another character he is set to revisit, with new Star Wars and Indiana Jones sequels on the way.
