- Scientists have identified fruits and vegetables containing toxic 'forever chemicals' (PFAS), which can have harmful effects in humans, including cancer.
- The Environmental Working Group (EWG) released its '2026 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce', detailing produce with high pesticide residues, including PFAS.
- The EWG's 'Dirty Dozen' list, topped by spinach and kale, found 96 per cent of samples contained pesticides, with 63 per cent showing 'forever chemicals'.
- Specific items on the 'Dirty Dozen' include spinach, kale, strawberries, grapes, and apples, with over half of kale samples contaminated with the potentially cancer-causing pesticide DCPA.
- For lower pesticide exposure, the EWG recommends items from its 'Clean Fifteen' list, such as pineapples, sweet corn, and avocados.
