The fresh Pablo Mari transfer update that will excite Arsenal fans

Pablo Mari has missed training with his club Flamengo as talks continue over a possible move to Arsenal this month.

That's according to reports in Brazil, with the Gunners locked in talks with Flamengo over a move for the Spaniard, who was pictured with Arsenal's technical director Edu at the weekend arriving in London.

However, there were reports that a deal for the former Manchester City man to return to the Premier League with Arsenal could collapse, after Mari returned to Brazil without a deal being confirmed.

The deal is not dead though, with Arsenal still hoping to complete a move for the 26-year-old.

Mikel Arteta not expecting good news on Shkodran Mustafi injury

And according to Brazilian journalist Renan Moura, Mari did not train with Flamengo today, with negotiations continuing over a possible move to Arsenal.

In a tweet posted by the Globo reporter, he said that the player was awaiting the outcome, with the two clubs still talking over a deal ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday.

Mari underwent a medical in London over the weekend ahead of a proposed move but Flamengo chiefs accused Arsenal of changing their terms in pushing for a loan deal rather than a permanent signing.

It was claimed that the Gunners want to take Mari on loan initially, having been linked with a £7.5million deal for the Spaniard.

Arsenal's need to strengthen in defence has been enhanced by an injury sustained by Shkodran Mustafi in the 2-1 win against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup fourth round last night.
