The free agents Bristol City could turn to as emergency options with transfer deadline looming

Bristol City are busy trying to finalise their last transfer dealings of the summer ahead of Thursday's deadline.

Head coach Lee Johnson wants to bring in as many as five new signings before the 8pm cut-off on August 8.

Monaco youngster Han-Noah Massengo looks set to become one of them having watched his new side from the stands on Sunday afternoon.

A striker is still on the club's shopping list, as well as reinforcements for the right side of defence.

One avenue City could explore is the free agent market, with a number of big names currently without a club.

Teams can still sign free agents throughout the course of the year, as long as they were not registered to a club at the start of the season, and a host of exciting prospects are still available.

From highly-experienced internationals to title-winning talents, free agents provide an opportunity for new faces to be brought into a club without having to take a risk with an expensive transfer fee.

Here, we have identified a selection of some of the best free agents still available to sign, as well as those from Europe, alongside the side they most recently left.
