The France decision which could be terrible news for Alexandre Lacazette ahead of Euro 2020

Didier Deschamps has committed his future to France for the next three and a half years.

Having guided Les Bleus to World Cup glory in the summer of 2018, the former Chelsea midfielder has been rewarded with a new contract which was officially announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking after putting pen-to-paper on a contract extension, Deschamps revealed his pride and is targeting success at next summer's European Championships and well as glory at the 2022 World Cup.

"I'm very happy, very proud to continue the adventure (until the 2022 World Cup), even if our next goal is Euro 2020," he said, as per France24 .

Whilst this has been regarded as great news for many, one person who might not be too happy about Deschamps staying on is Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Overlooked for a place in the World Cup squad last summer, the Gunners star continues be ignored for and has slipped way down the pecking order since his last call-up.

Blessed with the options of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Nabil Fekir among others, Deschamps has not hidden his preference for Olivier Giroud as his main striker, while Wissam Ben Yedder has been selected ahead of Lacazette in recent squads.

And it would appear that the Monaco preferred has a better chance of making the Euro 2020 squad than Lacazette.

"There’s no reason for us not to see him again, I had a difficult choice to make, with Ben Yedder coming out of a big season too," said Deschamps in May.

"You have the right to have a preference for Alexandre, like others have for Wissam.

"I have a choice to make and I chose Wissam. He has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season.

"He scored in big games, he knows how to play in alone in attack. He's named in this group of attackers as another option at one time or another."

This season Ben Yedder has netted 11 goals in just 14 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season as he looks to remain in Deschamps' thoughts ahead of next summer's tournament.

Should he maintain such high standards then it could be difficult for Lacazette to jump ahead of him in the pecking order for the Euros.

As a result, Deschamps signing a new deal could be bad news for the Gunners no.9 as his chances of featuring at a major international tournament will probably only improve with a new manager to wipe the slate clean.
