Chelsea have almost £100million worth of goalkeepers at their disposal in the form of Eduard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Mendy joined the Blues in September to come in and challenge the Spaniard for the No.1 jersey at Stamford Bridge and he has done just that.
Speaking last week new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Mendy is his first-choice pick but did not close the door on Kepa reclaiming his starting spot:
"Edou is the number one and he deserves to be the number one," Tuchel said.
“It is a sensitive position where you need to be clear and you cannot hide. You cannot hide your opinion in press conferences or in the dressing room.
“Things have to be clear and you cannot be afraid of it and we are not. Things have not changed.
"But, like I said, we need three strong goalkeepers and everybody to be ready because the challenge is high."
However, Tuchel did hand the world's most expensive goalkeeper Kepa a start in the recent league match against Newcastle, and the Spaniard will no doubt be hoping to challenge Mendy for more games in the future.
Mendy may have cost £50m less than his rival but the Senegalese stopper has made the position his own, something he puts down to one of his natural characteristics:
"I was a leader at Reims and at Rennes, when you arrive in a star dressing room with players who have won it all, it’s hard, but you do your talking on the pitch and you gain credibility through performances. I have natural leadership," Mendy told French website RMC Sport.
"As the [new] manager said, he started from a blank slate, he’s trying to give game time to everyone, to prove you can be part of the starting XI. I think that he wants to place in the group, that everyone is concerned and it’s not just words."
