The four Sheffield United players Chris Wilder will be without for Chelsea trip

Chelsea can put the record straight against Sheffield United this evening.

The two teams met twice in the Premier League last season with the Blades coming from 2-0 down to earn a point in the corresponding fixture, before winning the reverse match 3-0 at Bramall Lane.

However, Frank Lampard's side do look a lot more resolute defensively ahead of today's clash at Stamford Bridge as they are aiming to keep a sixth successive clean sheet across all competitions.

Chelsea will be hot favourites ahead of kick-off as United currently prop up the league table having failed to win any of their opening seven games.

And the bad news for Chris Wilder is that he will be without as many as four key players against the Blues.

As reported by the Examiner, central defender Jack O'Connell is out for the season following knee surgery.

Midfielder John Fleck is back in training following a back injury, but he is not expected to return until after the international break.

Meanwhile, Lys Mousset will miss the trip to the capital after picking up a foot injury in pre-season.

Ethan Ampadu is also unavailable as Premier League rules stipulate that he's unable to play against his parent club.

That will force Wilder into at least one change in midfield as the Blues loan star started last weekend's 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wilder has tipped Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League title.

"The problems he had there in his first season, with the transfer embargo, he did very well but he is now putting his stamp on the team and I expect them to go really well this season," Wilder predicted, as per the Belfast Telegraph.

"I think there’s a few clubs beneath Liverpool and Manchester City who are desperate to close that gap, and there is a gap, and Chelsea is certainly the standout one for me in terms of closing the gap between the two teams who have been the best in the country for quite a period now.

"Chelsea are an outstanding side and I believe they are going to close that gap and I think they will be in and around it right the way through.

"People might talk about inexperience but people always look for an excuse to dig managers out and I can’t see anything else but an unbelievably driven manager in Frank Lampard and intelligent one who had a fabulous playing career and who is taking those experiences into his managerial career."
