The four players Tottenham could have been scouting amid Christian Eriksen transfer hint

Tottenham have a huge summer ahead under Antonio Conte. The Italian masterminded an unlikely top four finish last season, guaranteeing Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.

However, he did so with a depleted squad and a number of players that don’t quite fit his style of play. The upcoming transfer window offers Conte a chance to address that, with the added help of money received through European qualification and the already confirmed £150million injected to the club by ENIC.

Discussing his plans for the market, the manager said: “We need to improve a lot. Next season the league will be very difficult for all the teams. With five subs you can change a game. If the bench is strong like a top team, like City, Chelsea, United and Liverpool, you need to improve a lot your squad in quality aspect and numerical aspect. You have to face in England three national competitions and one in the Champions League.”

Work has already been done to strengthen, with Ivan Perisic already confirmed as the first signing, while Fraser Forster is reportedly close to joining the club too. Ahead of the window, it appears more work is being done when it comes to scouting.

As per Danish Football on Twitter, Tottenham scouts were in attendance for Denmark’s 2-1 win over Austria on Monday night. There could be a number of players that the club may be looking at, so with that said, here’s a quick look at four options.

Christian Eriksen

The former playmaker is a free agent this summer and has been heavily linked with a return to North London. Not only that, but the Dane has already hinted at a move to Spurs.

Speaking with Viaplay, as reported by football365, Christian Eriksen said about his future: “I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again, I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me."

With the club now able to offer such football, it could come as a huge draw for a return.

Marcel Sabitzer

The 28-year-old has also been previously linked with a move to Tottenham, with reports suggesting he could leave Bayern Munich just one-year after he joined from RB Leipzig. The Austrian managed 26 Bundesliga appearances last season, starting as a central midfielder.

Konrad Laimer

The 25-year-old midfielder has been a regular for RB Leipzig over the years, but with one-year remaining on his current deal, it could open up the possibility of a bargain. While central midfield is Laimer’s strong point, he can also play on the right, allowing for some versatility in options, should he join.

Joakim Maehle

Maehle is a wing-back that can play on both the left and the right sides of defence, with the 25-year-old being a regular feature for Atalanta in Serie A. The Dane does, however, have three-years remaining on his deal at the club.
