The four changes Newcastle United fans would like Steve Bruce to make for Southampton clash

Joe Willock should be handed his debut and Allan Saint-Maximin should make his first start since November as Newcastle United host Southampton.

That is the view of Magpies fans, who have called upon Steve Bruce to make four changes to the side that suffered defeat to Crystal Palace last time out.

United ended their recent 11-match winless run in impressive fashion with a 2-0 victory at Everton last weekend. Callum Wilson scored twice as the visitors displayed an attacking intent in a new formation.

However, Newcastle went on to lose their next fixture at home to Crystal Palace despite Jonjo Shelvey's opener in just the second minute.

It was an improved display compared to recent performances, but nonetheless it was still a defeat which leaves Bruce's side looking over their shoulders at the eight-point cushion to the relegation zone.

With trips to Chelsea and Manchester United coming up, the Magpies need to target three points against a wounded Southampton.

However, Bruce is facing a selection headache with a number of defenders ruled out or considered a doubt. Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett could still feature, but Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles and Jamal Lewis all miss out.

Bearing this in mind, United fans would like to see four changes to the midweek line-up.

Supporters would like to see Martin Dubravka replace Karl Darlow in goal - despite the standby goalkeeper's impressive form this season.

Matt Ritchie earns a recall following the breakdown of his deadline-day move to Bournemouth, with Javi Manquillo staying at right-back.

Isaac Hayden drops into defence alongside Fabian Schar, and Arsenal loanee Willock is handed his debut in midfield next to Jonjo Shelvey.

Saint-Maximin makes his first start since recovering from Covid-19, while Ryan Fraser takes the other wide role.

Miguel Almiron has delivered improved displays in a number 10 role, and he keeps his place in attack alongside Wilson.
