The former Arsenal prospect who Cardiff City and Swansea City are reportedly chasing

Cardiff City and Swansea City are reportedly battling it out for Benfica winger Chris Willock.

The 22-year-old flyer is currently on loan at Huddersfield and has courted some admirers since penning a move there back in January.

The Arsenal academy product signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants back in 2017 but has been unable to break through into their first team as yet.

He spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship high flyers West Brom, but was also unable to break into the first team there, given their embarrassment of riches in those wide areas.

But he is now playing regular football at Huddersfield and is attracting interest from fellow Championship clubs, including, according to Football Insider, the South Wales rivals.

Both clubs are said to be interested in signing the player either on loan or on a permanent basis in the summer window.

The player has been key to Huddersfield’s revival under Nicky and Danny Cowley and has, as such, garnered much praise from the Terriers fanbase.

Willock certainly ties in with what City boss Neil Harris has been told is his remit in the transfer window.

The Bluebirds manager wants to cut down the average age of the squad and given Willock is only 22, that would certainly tick the right box.

He is also pacey and athletic, too, and both of those qualities appear to hover near the top of Harris’ wishlist.

For Swansea, another man on the wing and in the attacking department would be beneficial, with Andre Ayew more than likely to move in the summer, and Rhian Brewster and Conor Gallagher set to return to their parent clubs.
