The forgotten players set to return to Everton as pre-season training gets underway

A number of forgotten Everton players could be on their way back to the club as pre-season gets underway next week.

The majority of the Blues squad will be returning to USM Finch Farm on Monday July 1 as Marco Silva begins to prepare his side for the upcoming 2019/20 Premier League season.

As the ECHO understands, those involved in international football earlier in the summer such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and more will be offered an extended break - although their official return date is yet to be confirmed.

And while supporters will be waiting with bated breath to see the likes of Andre Gomes come back to Finch Farm, there are others who might have flown under the radar somewhat.

Here's a list of some of the forgotten Everton players who are set to return to Finch Farm as pre-season gets underway next week.

Kevin Mirallas

We enter another summer transfer window with speculation still rife over the future of Kevin Mirallas.

This time last year, the forward was ready to impress a new manager and actually was given a lot of game-time across pre-season - even bagging five goals in what was an incredible match against ATV Irdning.

However, it soon became clear he wasn't in Silva's plans for the upcoming campaign, and that's unlikely to have changed after what was an indifferent loan spell at Fiorentina.

As things stand though the Belgian is still an Everton player, and he will be returning to his parent club before potentially looking for another move this summer.

Shani Tarashaj

Shani Tarashaj still hasn't played a competitive game for Everton's first-team - and it doesn't look like he ever will.

The exciting Swiss talent was brought to the club by Roberto Martinez in January 2016, but his only appearance came in a friendly against MK Dons in the summer of 2016 under Ronald Koeman.

A series of loan moves have followed including last term's unsuccessful and eventful return to Grasshopper Zurich, with the 24-year-old unable to help his side avoid relegation.

Another move will almost certainly be on the horizon, but until that happens he could be back at Finch Farm.

Oumar Niasse

Last season's loan move didn't go according to plan for Oumar Niasse.

The striker failed to score as he spent the second half of 2018/19 with Cardiff City, and couldn't help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Niasse was someone who excelled under Silva at Hull City and, last summer, he did pick up a lot of game time in pre-season - but that didn't translate to the following campaign.

As it stands, the 29-year-old is the only senior striker available to Everton as pre-season gets underway with Dominic Calvert-Lewin having just completed England's European U21 Championship campaign and Cenk Tosun recovering from injury.

Muhamed Besic

It seems a long time since Muhamed Besic was challenging for a place in Everton's first team.

The Bosnia international has spent the last season and a half on loan with Middlesbrough, helping the Championship side to finish in the playoffs in 2017/18.

While the midfielder did impress during his first spell at the Riverside, his performances last term couldn't live up to the same level and there has been little word on another move for the 26-year-old yet.

Luke Garbutt

Luke Garbutt's last Premier League appearance for Everton came back in May 2015 - coming off the bench in the 74th minute of a 2-0 home defeat to Sunderland.

Since then, a series of loan moves have followed for the once-promising full back, with admittedly varying degrees of success.

Last summer the defender joined Oxford United on loan and enjoyed his best spell away from Everton thus far, making 33 appearances in all competitions and bagging four goals.

Rumours suggest the League One side could be interested in a permanent move for Garbutt.

Sandro Ramirez

It was another disappointing season for Sandro Ramirez in 2018/19.

The striker joined Everton in what initially looked to be a summer of promise, but couldn't adapt to the Premier League before being loaned out to Sevilla.

The 23-year-old spent last term on loan at Real Betis but failed to score.

Sandro actually picked up a lot of game time in pre-season last year sparking rumours his Everton career could be reignited, but it wasn't the case.

Cuco Martina

Many would argue Cuco Martina was placed in a bit of an unfair position across his first season at Goodison Park.

Throughout most of 2017/18 the defender was forced to operate at left back to cover the injured Leighton Baines, becoming part of a makeshift defence under Sam Allardyce.

Performances obviously weren't up to the standard of his missing teammate and Silva quickly decided last summer the defender wouldn't be part of his plans.

A loan to Stoke City in the first half of the term was followed by a temporary spell at Feyenoord - but no permanent move has come about as of yet.
