The forgotten Everton academy star whose journey has finally led to the Premier League

One former Everton academy star finally made his way to the top this weekend.

Blues fans might not have heard of Matty Daly before the youngster was handed his Premier League debut by Huddersfield at the weekend.

The Stockport-born midfielder came off the bench for Jan Siewert's side as a 41st minute substitute for Jonathan Hogg on Saturday in the Terriers' 2-1 loss to Watford.

What might have been forgotten though is that the 18-year-old was once part of Everton's academy - and looked to be a bright prospect.

Back in 2014, the midfielder was named the club's Under-13 Player Of The Year, receiving his award from then first team manager Roberto Martinez .

However, Daly left the Blues soon afterwards in 2015 to join Huddersfield Town's academy as an Under 15, where he has gone on to thrive.

The attacking midfielder has impressed through the ranks at the Premier League outfit and has also proven himself on the international stage, already making 10 appearances at youth level for England.

That included fashioning himself into a key figure in the Three Lions side which were beaten in the semi finals of the U17 European Championship by the Netherlands in 2018.

Those impressive displays led to David Wagner calling the youngster into his first team plans in pre-season - and have now led to a Premier League debut at the age of 18.

And current Huddersfield boss Siewert believes there are still big things in the future for the former Everton man.

The manager told the Huddersfield Examiner: "Matty Daly came on, who I have seen now for a long period. He is very talented, I would say, and I think every Huddersfield Town fan can be proud to have such a player who came through the Academy.

"For me, it was the right moment (for his debut) because he is creative and he had the possibilities to play the through balls.

"This is his quality and I take care with this young lad."

Huddersfield might be moving down to the Championship next season, but that could provide the perfect platform for the youngster to excel even further.

Another talent that was first moulded at Everton.
