The forgotten Chelsea man who could hand Frank Lampard a transfer windfall amid exit links

Chelsea have already been active in the transfer window.

The arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner mean that the Blues have already spent in the region of £78 million this summer, but it seems the spending is not done there.

The Blues are deep in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen over a possible transfer for midfielder Kai Havertz. The Bundesliga club are looking for a fee in the region of £90 million.

Another player near the top of Chelsea’s wishlist is Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell.

But, again, he won’t come cheap, with the Foxes holding out for a figure above the £80 million they got for Harry Maguire from Manchester United last summer.

Should Chelsea wish to complete the deals, then any extra money available to Frank Lampard would be welcome.

And some could come from forgotten striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian has not made an appearance for Chelsea since February, when he came off the bench to play the final 18 minutes of the 2-2 Premier League draw against Bournemouth.

Batshuayi has just one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, meaning that the Blues are likely to be looking to sell him this summer.

Leeds United and Crystal Palace are said to be interested in the striker, with Chelsea reportedly looking for a fee of around £25 million.

But. should they get that, it wouldn’t only be the fee that would come as a financial boost to the club.

Batshuayi is on around £100,000 a week at Chelsea, one of the reasons a deal could be difficult this summer .

It means the Blues may have to settle for sending him on loan and paying a percentage on wages.

However, if Chelsea can convince a club to make the investment in the player, then it will also free up that cash that can be used on transfers.

It means that Batshuayi could be key in Lampard landing some of his top targets this season.
