The Flying Scotsman travelled through parts of Greater Manchester today - did you spot it?

Train fans have shared photos of the famous Flying Scotsman travelling through parts of Greater Manchester today (August 23).

The famous train passed through Mossley, Stalybridge and Ashton, in Tameside.

It started its journey through the three towns at 3.30pm.

The Flying Scotsman was on the way to the East Lancashire Railway in Bury, where people will soon be able to see it in action.

Crowds gathered along the Stalybridge station platform and in Mossley and Ashton-under-Lyne to catch a glimpse of the Flying Scotsman.

People took to social media to share pictures and videos of the train.

Some were disappointed as the train passed them in a flash without much steam coming out of the engine.

Most enjoyed seeing the train and shared their excitement.

It will be making a five-day appearance in Bury from this Sunday, where passengers can book return tickets to Rawtenstall for a chance to ride on the train.

Tickets can be booked for August 29 and 30 and September 3-5.

The train has been touring again since May, travelling all around the UK.

The lockdown and coronavirus cancelled tours in 2020.

London to Edinburgh's train service began in 1862.

The train was named the Flying Scotsman in 1924.
