The Flying Scotsman comes to Leeds this weekend - how you can see the famous train

Britain's most famous locomotive is set to make a rare appearance in Leeds on Sunday as part of a summer tour.

The Flying Scotsman is set to pull into Leeds train station at approximately 10:20am on July 7 on a special journey from York to Carlisle.

The train - first built in 1923 -  is sure to bring in huge interest with a large number of spectators expected to line the route to get a glimpse of the steam-age marvel.

Tickets for the service have been like gold dust, with some fetching upwards of £300 for the trip on the Settle & Carlisle Line.

After Leeds, the Scotsman will make its way to Shipley, Keighley and Skipton before chugging through the beautiful valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.

The highlight of the journey will see the train travel across the the picturesque Ribblehead Viaduct - before climbing up to Ais Gill Summit on its way to Carlisle, where it is expected around 1:40pm.

The train will then have to do it all again making the return leg on the same route - arriving in Leeds at a later time of 9pm.

You can find out more information about the journey on the Railway Touring Company website.
