The fixture chaos coming Jose Mourinho and Tottenham's way after Carabao Cup announcement

Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham squad will soon discover their opponents for the opening day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The Premier League have confirmed that the schedule for all 380 games across the new campaign will be released no later than next Friday.

The announcement comes after changes were made to both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup given the late start of the upcoming season.

Following confirmation that there will be no FA Cup replays as all clubs are going to be under intense pressure due to the amount of games needed to be completed in a reduced time period, it has also been announced that Carabao Cup semi-finals will be one-legged affairs instead of the usual two.

The competition will commence on September, September 5, with the following three rounds then played on consecutive midweeks starting on Tuesday, September 15.

That makes things rather tricky for Spurs as they are due to enter the Carabao Cup in Round Three due to their involvement in the Europa League.

As Mourinho's men have to qualify for the group stage of Europe's secondary club competition via the qualifying rounds after finishing the season in sixth, their European journey begins on Thursday, September 17.

Providing that Spurs do progress to the third qualifying round their game will then take place the week they are due to enter the Carabao Cup.

Another win for the Lilywhites in Europe and their all-important play-off match to qualify for the group stage would be played the same week as the fourth round of the EFL Cup.

While it has yet to be confirmed when exactly Spurs will play their Carabao Cup games, providing that they do of course advance beyond the second round of the Europa League, the announcement of the round dates highlights the importance of Mourinho having a big squad next season.

With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg added to the roster following his move from Southampton, the head coach will be hoping a couple more faces can be added to help Tottenham out with the fixture chaos coming their way during the 2020/21 season.
