The five players with uncertain futures at Tottenham ahead of European transfer deadline

It could be a very interesting few days at Spurs as we enter the final week of the European transfer window.

With the Premier League summer window shutting ahead of the season once again on Thursday, August 8, the vast majority of European countries have had a few weeks longer to complete any remaining deals.

As it is always very busy in the final few hours of the transfer window here in England, it's likely to be exactly the same in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The fact the transfer window is now open for one more week could also have implications on Mauricio Pochettino and his Spurs side.

Here we take a look at the players who have uncertain futures in N17 at present.

Victor Wanyama

The midfielder's time at Spurs appears to be coming to an end with a move to Belgian side Club Brugge expected to go through.

Both clubs are close to an agreement and it is now down to Wanyama to agree on personal terms.

Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham 'didn't play well' in Newcastle defeat

The 28-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order in north London over the past couple of seasons due to his persistent knee problems and he has missed out on the matchday squad in the last two Premier League games.

football.london understands that a deal eventually worth £13.5m for the midfielder is close to being agreed between Spurs and Belgian side Club Brugge - a £9m fee up front with £4.5m in add-ons.

Serge Aurier

The Ivorian has been linked with a move away from the club this summer after two years in the capital.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for their former player, with AC Milan also an option ahead of the transfer deadline.

Aurier has yet to feature for the team this season and he has missed out on the squad in the past two games against Man City and Newcastle United.

While there may be talk of him leaving over the next few days, an exit would be a shock given the team's options at right-back at present.

Kyle Walker-Peters, who has started the season in the team, came off injured in Sunday's defeat against Newcastle, while Juan Foyth isn't due back until next month.

A move for the 26-year-old would leave the team rather short on the right and that's something the club cannot afford to let happen at present.

Christian Eriksen

The midfielder's importance to the team has been there for all to see in recent weeks amid talk that he could depart.

Eriksen made a huge difference when he came off the bench on the opening day against Aston Villa, while Spurs also really struggled without the player in Sunday's defeat to Newcastle.

Question marks still surround his future going into the final week of the window as La Liga clubs can still bring players in.

Looking a certainty to join Real Madrid before they turned their attentions to Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek, city rivals Atletico have also been linked with a move for the player.

If Eriksen doesn't depart before the deadline and his contract situation remains the same then he will be able to talk to foreign clubs in January about a pre-contract agreement from the start of the 2020/21 season onwards.

Spurs cannot afford to let that happen and it could turn out to be a very interesting few days regarding the player.

Toby Alderweireld

Spurs fans were resigned to losing the player this summer due to the £25m release clause in his contract.

Amid talk of both Manchester United and Roma making a move for him, he remained in the capital with not a single club deciding to offer the money needed to prise him away from Spurs.

The player is in the final year of his contract and a decision needs to be made over his future sooner rather than later before they lose him for absolutely nothing.

Jan Vertonghen

The defender is in the same boat as Eriksen and Alderweireld at present as his contract also expires at the end of the season.

Vertonghen has yet to make an appearance this term with Pochettino naming him on the bench for the past two games after leaving him out completely against Aston Villa.

It certainly doesn't look good for him at present but it would be a major shock if he departs.

Spurs are much better with him in the side and that has been evident following Davinson Sanchez's mistakes in both home games against Villa and Newcastle.

The Lilywhites do have Eric Dier and Juan Foyth who can also play in the heart of defence but they just aren't as good as their teammate.
