The five Liverpool players Jurgen Klopp will be without for Arsenal Carabao Cup clash

For the second time in the space of three days, Arsenal and Liverpool lock horns.

At the beginning of the week, they resumed acquaintances in the Premier League at Anfield as the Reds avenged recent losses by winning 3-1 despite falling behind to Alexandre Lacazette's goal.

And they'll do battle again on Thursday night - this time in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in a repeat of last season's tie at the same stage which ended 5-5 after 90 minutes.

Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal: Mikel Arteta press conference

It was the home side that would progress on penalties and speaking ahead of the upcoming game, Jurgen Klopp's assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders delivered some bad injury news during a fitness update.

Captain Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Kostas Tsimikas are the four of the five players Klopp will be without for the clash against the Gunners.

"Jordan, we will re-evaluate on Friday after this game to see if he can be ready for Aston Villa," Lijnders told the club's official website. "Joel is the same as what I said last week, he will be ready [after] the international break and use the time to prepare the Everton game.

"Ox is progressing well. He's in a good way and it's really important for him that this first phase goes smooth.

"But, of course, that takes a much longer time.

"We have Kostas, who after the Lincoln game had a thigh problem. We thought it would settle, it didn't, so he will need more time.

"He will not be involved on Thursday and also not on Sunday."

Another Liverpool player who will miss the game at Anfield is summer signing Thiago Alcantara.

The 29-year-old, who also sat out Monday night's win, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines.

"It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a COVID-19 test," Liverpool first-team doctor, Dr Jim Moxon, said. "We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is OK. He will be self-isolating now as per the guidelines and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon."
