The five hottest places on the warmest day ever recorded in Wales

A two-day heatwave has prompted the Met Office to issue an amber warning across Wales. People have been urged to stay indoors and in shaded areas to avoid the strong sun, which can be particularly dangerous for the elderly, children, and those with chronic health problems.

On Monday, Wales recorded its highest ever temperature. The measuring station at Hawarden in Flintshire recorded a provisional temperature of 37.1C, beating the previous high of 35.2C recorded in the same location on August 2, 1990. The extreme weather left some beauty spots including Cardiff Bay and Roath Park deserted as people sought shelter indoors away from the record-breaking heat. Weatherman Derek Brockway predicted temperatures could also reach up to 37C on Tuesday in some parts of Wales.
