With the vaccine rollout well underway and talks of a review of restrictions in the weeks coming up to April 5, the end is in sight.
While incidence rates remain high in certain counties in Ireland, some are faring much better than others.
Among them are five particularly well-performing counties in relation to new cases and lower 14-day incidence rates.
So here’s a list of the counties in Ireland leading the way out of lockdown:
Cavan
Among the counties faring best this week in the midst of Covid-19 is Co. Cavan, where just 74 cases have been reported over the last two weeks.
The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population here is at 97.1, as of March 7, 2021.
Meanwhile, less than five cases were reported here by health officials on Monday.
Carlow
Carlow’s Covid figures are also among the lowest country-wide, with 88 new cases reported there over the last 14 days.
Their 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population is quite high at 154.6, however, just 6 out of the 437 cases confirmed on Monday were located here.

Roscommon
Similar to Carlow, the 14-day incidence rate has risen above the one-hundred mark at 105.4, however cases there over the last 24 hours have been extremely low with health officials confirming less than five new cases on Monday.
Over the last two weeks, Roscommon has been home to just 68 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
Kilkenny
Joining Roscommon with less than five new confirmed cases here on Monday is Kilkenny with a 14-day incidence rate of 52.4.
Over the last two weeks, there have only been 52 new cases reported in Kilkenny.
Leitrim
Lastly, Leitrim.
Once again, less than five cases were reported here on Monday.
The 14-day incidence rate is at 68.7 and just 22 cases have been detected here over the last two weeks.
