Timo Werner is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe at the moment and Chelsea’s imminent approach for the RB Leipzig frontman has sent shockwaves around the footballing world.
With Hakim Ziyech joining this summer, and Chelsea already boasting an array of talents in the attacking department, the arrival of Werner would add a powerful dimension to Frank Lampard’s squad.
Should a deal be completed and Chelsea land the German for next season, a number of existing Blues players could well benefit from his arrival.
Tammy Abraham
For much of this season, the 22-year-old has shouldered much of the striking responsibility for the Blues and while his 13 Premier League goals are a decent return so far this season, he has still been almost the sole option and an alternative in the form of Warner is necessary to alleviate the burden on a player still developing.
Werner’s inclusion would not necessarily mean that Abraham would lose his place in the side, with the German capable of playing in the wide forward position on the left and his creative talent meaning both players would be able to start for Lampard.
Mason Mount
The young midfielder has been something of a revelation in this, his debut season in the top flight.
Playing in an attacking midfield role off the front man, Mount has created more chances than anyone in the Chelsea team in the league this season bar Willian and will be hoping a striker possessing the finishing quality of Werner will help him boost his assist numbers.
Equally, Mount could take advantage of the striker’s ability to hold up the ball, better involving himself as an overall attacking threat.
Hakim Ziyech
With the former Ajax man also set to arrive this summer, another big name signing could help ease the weight of expectation on the Morocco international.
With Ziyech operating on the right wing as a creative outlet, a striker as prolific as Werner will be expected to be on the receiving end of a lot of his crosses and through balls from counter attacks.
Marcos Alonso
The Blues’ energetic full back could see Werner as the ideal ally on Chelsea’s left side as it is an area Werner can sometimes occupy.
Should the two form a link up or bond, the partnership could be fruitful when the team counter-attack on that side of the pitch.
Reece James
Like Alonso, youngster James likes to get forward from his full back position and has shown himself both confident and adept at crossing the ball, something Werner will surely profit from.
