The five bits of coronavirus advice that won’t change when Scotland eases lockdown

The National Clinical Director has laid out five basic pieces of advice that have not and will not change in the ongoing fight against coronavirus.

While some may see it as common sense to wash their hands and clean household surfaces regularly, it may be a good time to remind others as Scotland looks ahead towards the first phase of lockdown easing next week.

As reported on Glasgow Live, the Scottish Government has said changes will happen on May 28, when the first of four phases moving out of lockdown begins.

Today, Jason Leitch followed Nicola Sturgeon’s daily briefing with five points of advice which he said “have not and will not change” in keeping coronavirus at bay:

  1. Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based gel
  2. Keep at least two metres distance between yourself and other people outside your household and, if you’re in a crowded area like a shop, use a face covering
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  4. Make sure you cover your mouth and nose with a bent arm or tissue if you cough or sneeze
  5. Clean all your surfaces regularly with a household cleaner or anti-bacterial wipes

Keeping your distance and wearing a face mask in crowded or indoor areas stops liquid droplets reaching you when others cough or sneeze - while making sure that you disinfect your hands and the surfaces you touch regularly ensures that you’re getting rid of anything you’ve picked up while touching an infected surface.

The First Minister reiterated today that the new measures are not in place yet, and asked Scots to adhere to the current lockdown rules over the bank holiday weekend and into next week.
