Borderlands 3’s Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is here, continuing the famed tradition of DLC names that are too long to put in headlines. I published my review of it yesterday, and overall I think it’s quite good, but what stood out the most to me is how much I liked many of the drops I was getting. Even without farming it to any great extent, I found that I was getting a ton of new items in the DLC, and many of them were outclassing weapons I’ve been using for months now.
I decided to make a list of the top five weapons in the DLC, at least based on what I’ve used so far. I won’t say there aren’t some I might be missing here, but it’s going to require more time (and more Anointments) to gauge them all. But for a start, here’s what to keep an eye out for:
5. Craps (Torgue Pistol)
This is a Torgue pistol where I actually had to look up the special perk. All I knew is that it hit hard and its stick projectiles were ruining all flesh enemies on my fire copy. It actually has the chance to refill its magazine on crit and then sometimes it shoots a circle of projectiles. Is that a craps thing? I don’t know craps.
4. AutoAime (DAHL Sniper)
Do you hate snipers? Well then I have the sniper for you. This thing says it’s a sniper, but like Lyuda before it, it’s more of an auto rifle. It’s probably not quite as good as its predecessor, but the fun perks is “auto-aim” where it shoots essentially smart bullets in full auto or burst mode so you really can’t miss with it. I got a corrosive copy on console that did serious work against loader bots and bosses.
3. Slow Hand (Hyperion Shotgun)
I believe there are two shotguns in this DLC, the Slow Hand and the Heartbreaker. This is the good one. It lops essentially an elemental fireball meaning that you don’t want to stand too close while you’re shooting it, and also that it can ruin enemies with enough well placed splash damage shots.
2. ION LASER (Maliwan SMG)
This thing is a monster, particularly with my bonus corrosive anointment shown here which let Amara blaze through Mayhem 4 of this DLC with ease. Maliwan does it again with some serious elemental damage, and this can roll with any two. Mine was corrosive/fire meaning it was perfect for every encounter in this DLC between the robots and bandits. It is better than my Cutsman, I swear to god.
1. ION CANNON (Vladof Launcher)
Bow down before my god roll of a god drop. The Ion Cannon is a heavy launcher that makes heavy launchers actually fun to use rather than the pain that they usually are. It shoots a huge charge-up shot that does more damage than anything else I’ve seen in the game. With this Anointment on Amara I was one-shotting badasses and three-shotting some bosses on Mayhem 4. It’s truly a monster with potentially millions of damage per hit depending on your build. I have never loved a launcher more. Find this immediately. I believe the Fabricator boss has the best chance of dropping it.
BONUS: The Lucky 7
Here’s the first one people are telling me I’m sleeping on. I have yet to mess around with it enough to understand why it’s OP, but here’s a video explaining why:
Enjoy. Some seriously good weapons here, and don’t forget about the new class mods to boot. Have fun.
