The five areas in Bristol with the lowest coronavirus rates

The number of areas in the Bristol region to record low numbers of coronavirus cases is quickly starting to decline, latest government figures show.

The latest data - which covers the seven days to January 1 - shows only five neighbourhoods in Bristol recorded infection rates below 200 per 100,000.

In comparison, two weeks ago, the majority of the city was recording infection rates below 200 and ten areas actually had rates below 100.

In this latest data set, Clifton East recorded the lowest infection rate in the city at 144.2 after 13 cases were confirmed.

Looking at the wider region, Yate South in South Gloucestershire (8 cases, rate 110) and Clevedon South & Yeo in North Somerset (9 cases, rate 116.5) were the only areas to record infection rates lower than Clifton East.

A total of 1,738 coronavirus infections were recorded in Bristol in the seven days up to January 1 and the city's rate (375.1) has doubled in the space of a week - but it remains significantly lower than England's current rate (579.8).

This comes as people in England are again being asked to stay at home as the country entered its third national lockdown this week (January 5) following a rapid rise in infections.

Below are the neighbourhoods with a case rate below 200, listed in ascending order:

Where is the data coming from?

You can see the latest national data on the government's website.

The map displays weekly data, which are updated everyday.

The data can be viewed by local authority but also by smaller sections called 'Middle Super Output Areas'.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.
